Modern Ventless Fireplaces - Quietly Efficient, Very Practical
Modern ventless fireplaces are truly a feat of engineering. Using natural gas or propane, these fireplaces do not require the flue to be open to be safely operated. Special combustion chambers allow these gases to be burned so completely that very little carbon monoxide is formed. Furthermore, the combustion of natural gas and propane produces no soot and therefore no smoke.
The ventless fireplace is much more effective at heating a room than a any other fireplace which requires the flue to be open to vent exhaust gases. Fireplaces which require venting lose much of their heat up the chimney. It would be extremely dangerous to operate one of these fireplaces without the flue open. Only a ventless fireplace can be operated with the flue closed. In doing so, all of the heat is directed into the room instead of up the chimney and the room is heated far more efficiently.
A carbon monoxide detector is required wherever there is a ventless fireplace. Foreign material entering the fireplace as well as debris in the gas line can cause unwanted combustion products to enter a room. Aside from smoke, carbon monoxide is formed when organic material combusts incompletely. Carbon monoxide is a colorless and tasteless gas which is deadly to breathe. Therefore, any room with a ventless fireplace should also be equipped with a carbon monoxide detector to warn any occupants to leave the room immediately if carbon monoxide levels are too high.

Ventless fireplaces come in all styles. They often include ceramic logs on cast iron hearths or grates for aesthetic purposes. The gas flame heats these logs, causing them to glow in a manner very similar to a real wood fire. These logs will last the lifetime of the fireplace and will not need to be replaced. Ventless fireplaces can either be built into a mantle or can be freestanding since they require no chimney. Portable vent-less fireplaces often include their own gas supply such as a cylinder of propane. The modern ventless fireplace is a far cry from old wood-burning fireplaces in terms of both styling and technology. Ventless fireplaces are available in all sizes and styles to fit the decor of any room - even the ones without a chimney. A fireplace like this can also save on heating bills since only one room of a house can be kept warm during sleeping hours. |
